BIO

Ley Sander is Professor of Neurology at University College London. His research has been focused on elucidating the epidemiology and outcomes of epilepsy in many settings. He has made great contributions to understanding the role of current antiepileptic treatment on long-term outcome. He has conducted many innovative projects over the last 30 years into the epidemiology of epilepsy and was responsible for developing and validating a screening instrument for epileptic seizures that is widely used around the world. He has worked in resource-poor settings worldwide, establishing epidemiological parameters, and identifying risk factors for epilepsy in Africa, Asia, and South America, and was instrumental in the establishment of the World Health Organisation, International League Against Epilepsy and International Bureau for Epilepsy Global Campaign Against Epilepsy that has led to significant improvements in provision for epilepsy, globally.
